The X6 supports exFAT but I wanted to be able to swap between cars if needed. They came already formatted as FAT32 so no external program or command line steps required to utilize the full 64GB. One for my 2009 335i E92 and one for my Wife’s 2016 X6 XDrive 35i. I bought a couple SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Dives, 64GB. It is a small sandisk that sits almost flush:

I've used a 128GB USB thumb drive for 4 years and still works like on day 1, no issues.

The 335i doesn't have as advanced capabilities for streaming or USB. I'm actually doing it more for my 2009 335i E92 than the X6 but figured I'd do it for both cars. Searching the internet I am finding ways to do it but it seems to be way more work and with a steep learning curve for me to go that route just now. at least as far as I've figured out so far. I can put as many Albums on a USB as will fit or a single Playlist. It handles Album Art fine if it was in iTunes in the first place. I am using MediaHuman Audio Converter to convert my Apple Lossless iTunes Library to MP3. I've found that for cover art, a jpeg of about 500px x 500px at 72dpi is about right if you embed an image that's too big, it won't show up. I'm more concerned with getting the metadata correct and a decent cover art image to show up on the screen. I tend to play a single "album" (for lack of a better term) at a time, so playlists are just not worth the effort for me. I has the B&O upgrade, but I think iDrive is the same whether it's H-K or B&O. My 2017 takes a 128GB USB stick just fine. This is for a 2016 X6 Xdrive 35i, USA, with about every option added. Do I just need to wait for all the songs to load to the HD?Īnything special I need to do to sort the playlists so I can select them separately? A single play list works fine and I can default to that but with Christmas coming up I wanted to add a Christmas Playlist while I'm at it. I'm sure it is something simple but I am not finding detailed instructions in the Owner's Manual. The playback seems to default to the songs in the first folder, even if I create a main folder and put the two sub folders within it. I have saved two Playlists for now and put them each in their own folder. What is the maximum size USB? Seems either FAT32 or exFAT are supported leading me to believe I could use a 128GB USB if I wanted although for now 32GB is more than enough. I have converted some Playlists from iTunes (Apple Lossless) to MP3, 44100Hz, 320kbps.
